Levels
Competitive Division
This division is for stronger and higher skilled players. Players will know all of the rules, and have more playing or coaching experience. Players in this division tend to take games seriously, and want to play competitive games. Recreation level players are allowed to play on competitive teams, provided they do not compromise the level of competition.
Recreation Division
This division is for lower skilled players that are looking for more fun than high competition. Generally, players have played varsity or lower in high school, or are just starting to learn the rules of the game. Teams are allowed to have one to two players on their team considered to be “competitive” level players.
Rules:
Teams will play one or two matches each night. Matches are best 2 out 3 sets, first two games are to 25, win by two, third set to 15.
There must be one person of each gender on the court at all times. Teams can consist of 3 men and 1 woman, 2 men and women, or 3 women and 1 man. There must be at least three players on the court at all times, or your team forfeits.
Substitutions: Anyone can sub for your team during regular league player. However, there are no subs allowed during bracket play.
Rotation: Teams are not required to rotate positions, only serving order.
Net: A net touch is illegal at all times. There is no continuation, if you touch the net after hitting the ball down, it is a fault.
Tips: No open hand tips.
Ball Handling: There are no referees, you must call your own. In the competitive division, you are allowed 2 rotations of the ball, more than that is considered a double contact. In the recreation division, it must be a very bad contact to be called. Lifts are prolonged contact, or a catch to be illegal.
Double Contact: Players may double contact any first ball over (including serves) provided the ball is not held.
Let Serves: Let Serves are NOT legal.
Blocking: A block is not counted as a team hit. You can directional block.
Foot Digs: Foot Digs are legal.
Setting Over: When the ball is set into the opponents court, the setters shoulders must be “Squared Up” or Perpendicular to the line of flight of the ball.
Side Changes: Teams should switch sides of the court after every 7 points in games to 21 or more, and every 5 points for games to 15.
Footwear: Players may not wear cleats or spikes of any kind. Players may play barefoot.
